Mixed media work on wood by Bill Condon titled "Janitzio". Janitzio is the main island of Lake Pátzcuaro in central Mexico. It is well known for a large statue of José María Morelos, a great hero of Mexico's independence, which sits atop a hill and can be seen in the upper right of this work. Signed and dated, circa 1961.

Artist Biography

Born in 1923, Bill Condon was a native Houstonian, a practicing architect and a fine artist in his home town. He received a BA in architecture from Rice Institute in 1949 and assumed a position in the architectural firm of Broesche and Condon Associates. As an artist, Condon was ingenious, excelling as a print-maker and painter. Condon showed regularly in the Annual Exhibition of Work by Houston Artists from 1954 to 1962. Condon passed away in 1998.
