Artist Biography

Born on November 4, 1935 and raised in Shreveport, Francis lived for over 40 years in the artist colony of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He attended Sewanee Military Academy, Washington and Lee University, Louisiana State University, and Tulane University where he received a degree in architecture. He worked as an architect in Shreveport before turning to a successful career pursuing his art. Francis was a talented artist, and his true passion was painting. He devoted much of his life to creating beautiful impressionist works, many featuring children. His paintings were shown across the South and many hang in the homes of art-loving Shreveport friends. He was personable, witty, an animal lover and extremely well-traveled, finding inspiration for his paintings in the beautiful places he visited. Kalmbach passed away in 2016 at the age of 80 in his home in Mexico.
