About

Abstract mixed media painting made of hand cut paper arranged on canvas and covered in clear acrylic created by Texas artist, Patrick Turk. The large collage includes imagery of different figures and makes the overall face resembling an owl. Turk said he used tiny little elements from Jack Chick's "Chick Tracts" which are fundamentalist Christian proselytizing comics usually distributed for free. The title is a quote from Twin Peaks and Turk was invited to make this pieced for a show of satirical Jack Chick themed art in Los Angeles in 2006. Includes the artist's signature and date at the bottom right of the canvas made of hand cut paper.

Artist Biography

Quasi-scientist and self-taught artist, Patrick Turk explores the mysteries of the universe in his highly detailed and imaginative hand-cut paper assemblages. Images taken from any number of resources including: science-fiction novels, encyclopedias, history and scientific diagrams, are cut and assembled in oftentimes multidimensional surfaces to create a curious and dark narrative. Says Turk, “The intense levels of detail become a microcosm, forming a reflection of the human relationship to the plasticity of time and space, and to the process of self-unfolding.” Patrick Turk was born in Galveston, Texas and lives and works in Houston.
